PICKLEBALL MOMENTS IN 2025  By Stew Cohen
Say goodbye to 2025
But not to topspin, dinks, and hard drives.
Don’t you feel great walking onto the court
Unless of course, it’s courts 5 or 6…the last resorts.
Your partner is a lefty or a righty and you’ll adjust,
For a game with the promise of being robust.
The new safety nets were put up by a crew.
Promised safety for us players…but something we knew
Nothing is perfect the first time through.
The nets' debut were a little less than desired.
Nets with gaps might have gotten someone fired
But the crew returned and the gaps are gone.
Now the club keeps tab of errant softballs
Landing in our courts causing close calls.
2025 brought monsoons and  bird feather calling cards.
The rain flooded our courts and some of our yards.
While in the dry moments, predators battled birds
And left feathers and a white substance I’d rather not describe in words.
More of us used the pickle ball player’s companion
The pickle ball machine with balls propelled through a cannon.
Remember our successful summer socials - ice cream sundaes and root beer floats
But the Battle of the Paddle was the key highlight of 2025…right there in my notes.
Asante Heritage and the conglomeration of teams hadn’t seen anything like us.
Gather around Alan Coleman and he’ll discuss
He might say, “Let’s go out and win in 26 and keep the trophy here.”
It’s as good a reason as I can think of to raise a beer!
Our Christmas Party brings together players dressed like you’ve never seen them.
For one moment, our players have put away their glasses and hats.
For our Christmas Party, they won’t be talking about stats
But of the desserts they hope to win
And how much playing time it may take to once again appear trim.
Tonight, many of us take home cakes and pies from our classy raffle.
So if you didn’t get a dessert, I’m not the only one left baffled.
Remember, recreational pickleball is meant to be fun
Whether you’re playing ladders, trying to be number one
Or ladies or mixed round robin…..
And for the life of me, the score is forgotten.
Don’t be embarrassed, it’s not so uncommon.
I’m reminded we have several players hovering around 90 years old.
So…it seems that playing pickleball is medical gold!

A Mark YODA Friedenberg Tidal Wave Pickleball Paddle awaited a new owner. Friedenberg and Earl Hill, both Pickleball Hall of Fame members and residents of Arizona Traditions, donated pickleball merch such as paddles and bags to the AZT Pickleball Club’s 2025 Christmas Party.  The generous Christmas spirit of both Hill and Friedenberg with their pickleball merch and the spirit of talented AZT dessert bakers such as Tracy Adamson provided another wonderful opportunity for more than 100 people at the December 12th party to try and win a dessert of their choice.  The club took in $819 from the dessert raffle.

A big thank you should go to Joyce Keil for her efforts at making sure the Christmas Party went off smoothly. AZT Pickleball President Dave Keil helped Joyce with the raffles and provided the sound system for the evening.  Joyce thanked her check-in team, the artistic crew for creating the beautiful Christmas table centerpieces, the organizers of the baked goods raffle table, and the cake servers.  She also organized a crew for clearing the tables and cleaning the tablecloths.

The caterers were a great choice and came through with Chicken Marsala and Vegetable Lasagna.

Have a great game, keep playing Pickleball, and hope your Christmas and New Years are wonderful.
